Understanding Small Business Support Scheme (SBSS)
Introduction

Young men and women petty, itinerant and sedentary traders in rural areas need finance for new business start-up as well as resuscitation of exhausted business or expansion of production capacities or business-lines in order to significantly reduce poverty currently engulfing the sector. To help meet the challenges of finance for these ventures and to revamp them on a small sustainable basis, the Small Business Support Scheme (SBSS) is packaged by the African Centre for Rural Youth Empowerment (ACRYE) as a product for mobilizing finance for the purpose of empowering the rural young men and women for a decent livelihood.

The Goals of the Scheme

The Scheme is packaged to accomplish the following goals:

  1. To provide small business finance to the interested member of the community-based Youth Empowerment Society (YES) on a small term (not more than a period of 6 months).
  2. To inculcate the culture of savings and also offer savings opportunity to the participants
  3. To inculcate the culture of savings and also offer savings opportunity to the participants
  4. To increase the overall standard of living of the participants
